Bringing Generations Together Through Storytelling

The Kids Read, Seniors Smile Summer Program is a heartwarming intergenerational initiative that connects children with seniors in care facilities and residential homes through shared reading experiences.

During each visit, children will read books aloud to seniors, engage in conversations, and create meaningful moments of connection. These sessions go beyond reading—they are opportunities to foster friendship, laughter, learning, and emotional well-being.

For seniors, hearing a child read can inspire comfort, happiness, and cherished memories. For children, the experience helps build confidence, communication skills, empathy, patience, and respect for older generations.

How It Works

Our summer reading program is thoughtfully designed to create engaging, enjoyable, and memorable experiences for both children and seniors.

Step 1 – Children Become Readers:

Children participate as volunteer readers, selecting age-appropriate and engaging books to read aloud during scheduled visits.

Step 2 – Seniors Enjoy Story Time:

Seniors gather in care facilities or homes to enjoy listening to stories, participating in conversations, sharing memories, and interacting with young readers.
